Assisted Living Facilities

In the past NESPOA has been asked to support a number of assisted living and related health facilities. One was approved by the City Council, which NESPOA opposed (SWC Shea Blvd. & 124th St.). Another project was strongly opposed by NESPOA and residents adjacent to the project (138th St. and Via Linda), and was denied unanimously by the Scottsdale City Council. Other projects are on the horizon (NWC Shea Blvd. & 124th St.). After extensive discussion, with input from several experts, the NESPOA Board of Directors adopted the following preliminary guidelines:

  1. The facilities shall be sited at signalized intersections for the safety of staff, visitors and local residents.
  2. Maximum height of all structures shall be 24 feet to prevent the obstruction of view corridors.
  3. The architectural style of the buildings shall be residential and blend with the surrounding residential neighborhood.
  4. Walls and/or gates may be needed to safeguard the visitors and patients.
